At the end of Term 3, our U13A and B played in a Cricket Festival hosted by various schools. The opening fixture saw the U13A vs RBPS, who posted a score of 174 for 9 in 40 overs. Chad Julius took 4 for 25 runs in 7 overs. WBJS in reply were bowled out for 114 runs.
The second fixture saw the U13A vs SACS in a T20. WBJS batted first scoring 146 runs for the loss of no wickets. Timothy Belcher top-scored with 76* off 59 balls, and Achmat Behardien missing out on his half-century, ended on 49*. In reply, SACS were restricted to 129 for the loss of 4 wickets. An excellent bowling and fielding display by our boys, to pick up the win.
The final fixture saw the U13A vs Rhenish in a 40 over match. WBJS batted first and found themselves 3 down in the first 3 overs, in came Uzayr Ebrahim and Chad Campbell to steady the ship, scoring 25 and 42 respectively. Chad Julius (34 runs), Mustafa Kajee (18 runs) and Zachary Brown (23 runs), also added valuable runs. WBJS ended up being bowled out for 172. In reply, Rhenish was dismissed for 89 runs. Another clinical bowling and fielding performance by our boys. Pick of the bowlers, Jagger Lee Fong took 5 wickets for 15 runs in 4.2 overs and Timothy Belcher took 4 wickets for 14 runs in 5 overs.
Friday, 1 October Wynberg U13B Cricket Team played two matches against Sweet Valley U13A, 40 over and a T20 match. Although the results of both matches did not go in Wynberg’s favour, the players certainly took a lot out of the game and learned some valuable cricket lessons. We are sure they will come back a lot stronger in the season that lies ahead.
Well done boys. Onwards and upwards! Click here for more visuals of the festival.
