Wynberg Boys’ Junior School is committed to offering opportunities so that all its pupils may pursue excellence in all aspects of education – academic, cultural, sporting and service.
At Wynberg Boys’ Junior School we strive to cultivate an environment of Continuous Learning and Teaching. This means that not only will our boys develop an insatiable thirst for knowledge long after they left our school, but they will also be well-equipped to find it.
Learning and teaching is aligned to meet the requirements of the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS), but we also focus on developing the 4 core competencies the school tries to promote. The competencies are Creativity, Critical thinking, Collaboration and Communication (The 4C’s). The 4C’s are globally recognised as the core skills needed to succeed in a professional environment.
With advancements in technology the school has realised that in order to remain current we need to embrace the use of technology in a more functional way that surpasses the age old methods of using it as only an input and output device. Our partner in this regard is Google Apps For Education (GAFE). GAFE offers an interactive way of learning and teaching and extends the classroom to almost anywhere in the world. Teachers can upload work that is accessible to learners at any time and can be monitored in real-time. In Addition to this, there was a need for learners to have portable devices so that they could interact with GAFE frequently. In order for learners to operate devices successfully and engage with GAFE, teachers have upskilled themselves to deliver best practice. This is a constant journey and will keep on making strides in the right direction for our learners. Apart from this we also employ various thinking maps to further facilitate the learning process.
Our academic approach is holistic and strategically includes these pillars (sport, culture and service) of the school. We realise these pillars form(s) part of the context of every Wynberg boy and strive to make it part of the learning programme by using it in context-based activities such as comprehensions and problem-solving in Mathematics. The academic experience is further enhanced through:
Apart from our different approach to teaching and learning, our school is structured along the same lines as a traditional state school with classes in Foundation (Grade R-3); Intermediate (Grade 4-6 ) and Senior Phase (Grade 7).
